She has two sisters Joan McDevitt and Denise Pacilli that reside in New Jersey. Bette lived in New Jersey until 1963 at which time she moved to Memphis, where she lived and raised her family, Northern born but a Southern at heart. She was a devoted Mother of three daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Mark Doane of Cordova, Beth and Johnny Brown of Millington, Valerie and Charles Vachon of Olive Branch. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Zachary, Christopher, Matthew, Sean and Patrick Brown. Ashleigh and Brandon Phillips and Alexandra Doane all share her creativity, out going personality and above all Bette’s spiritualism. She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family. Bette often told stories of her life growing up during the Depression. Never forgetting her humble beginnings, she lived a life serving others and taught her family to do the same. Those that knew her adored her. The family will have a quiet celebration of Bette’s life and they ask that you remember her in prayer. LORRIE BETH LEACH
Millington City Hall was closed on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. so friends, family and colleagues could attend the funeral of their friend and coworker, Lorrie Beth Leach, Millington City Clerk. Leach passed away last week after a battle with cancer. Leach, 35, of Shelby Forest, passed away Sept. 18, 2014 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born to Tommy Caldwell and the late Nancy Duggan Caldwell on May 24, 1979. Family and friends were Lorrie’s passion and first loves. Her love of fishing and the outdoors began as a young girl and continued to be a great joy that she shared with her son, AJ. Whether cheering on her beloved Grizzlies or singing her favorite song, Lorrie’s inner beauty and contagious smile were a beacon to everyone she met. Lorrie is survived by her precious son, AJ and his father, Al Leach; her father, Tommy Caldwell (Tammie); sister, Sam Caldwell Sheppard (Len); brother, Russell Caldwell (Jenna); grandmother, Vada Caldwell; and a number of other relatives and close friends including her colleagues at the city of Millington that became her second family. Lorrie’s faithfulness and endurance were an inspiration to so many. Throughout her journey, she held steadfast to her faith. Her belief and prayer was if her story could lead one unbeliever to Christ, then her battle was not in vain. Funeral services were held Sept. 22, at Munford Funeral Home, Millington Chapel.
