Collierville Edges Munford

The Munford Cougars traveled to Collierville Friday night for a showdown with the Dragons.
With two late scores, the Dragons were able to pull out a 16-10 victory over the Cougars. Munford (6-2) jumped out to a 3-0 in the second quarter with a Travis Swayze 21-yard field goal.
That was the only score of the first half. Collierville (6-2) took the lead 7-3 in the third quarter when Drew Van de Vuurst caught an 11-yard TD pass from Garrett Booth.
Munford went ahead 10-7 in the fourth quarter with a Brent Rhea 1-yard touchdown run. Rhea had 64 yards on the night rushing. His teammate Jacob Ross picked up 133 yards on 21 carries.
The Cougars’ ground attack almost pulled off the victory but Collierville got a Dylan Scott 22-yard field goal to tie the game later in the fourth quarter.
Then Collierville got the go-ahead score from Mitchell Jensen on a 1-yard run to prevail 16-10. The Cougars will look to get back into the win column this Friday traveling to Bartlett.
In other action from this past Friday, the Tipton-Rosemark Academy Rebels played St. George’s going down 56-21.
St. George’s jumped ahead 29-0 in the first half before AJ Hightower hit Logan Stewart for a 28-yard touchdown pass. The score was 29-7 at the half.
The Rebels (5-4) scored the only touchdown in the third quarter with Stewart crossing the goal line form 10-yard out. Another Stewart TD run in the fourth quarter made the score 29-21. Then St. George’s responded with 27 points to close out the game.
TRA will return to action Halloween night at Rossville Christian with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Brighton Cardinals traveled to Station Camp Friday. The Cardinals were defeated 51-35 and Brighton continues to be on the road this Friday heading to Briarcrest.
