Chamber Hires Cooper As New Executive Director

Chairman of the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Dianne Baker announced the appointment of Linda Cooper as the new executive director of the Chamber effective December 1.
“I am very pleased that Linda will be taking on the role of Chamber Executive Director. She has a fantastic array of experiences and expertise. Her energy and vision will be instrumental in providing our membership and the community as a whole with exciting leadership,” Baker said.
Cooper, a longtime resident of the city, brings more than 30 years of marketing, public relations, fundraising and government affairs expertise to the position.
She is currently an independent marketing and public relations consultant. Her firm, Cooper Kennedy Consulting specializes in assisting nonprofit organizations, but also works with several for-profit businesses.
Cooper previously worked for many years as a public relations account manager for the Memphis, Tenn.-based communications firm Walker + Associates, and was communications coordinator for the Medical Education and Research Institute. She has served stints with two nonprofit law firms as director of development and communications for Memphis Area Legal Services and as communications director for the National Women’s Law Center in Washington D.C.
She also has served as a public affairs officer for the Japan Automobile Manufacturer’s Association in Washington, D.C., and was a press aide for a decade on Capitol Hill for Tennessee’s U. S. Sens. Jim Sasser and Harlan Mathews.
Cooper began her career at her hometown newspaper as a reporter for The Millington Star. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Mississippi University for Women, and is a graduate of Millington Central High School.
“I am so excited to be able to put my skills and experience to work on behalf of the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce. It’s an honor and extraordinary opportunity to serve as an advocate, promoting business and economic growth in my hometown,” Cooper stated.
Current Chairperson-Elect of the Millington Chamber Pam Kendrick commented, “As incoming Chair, I am very excited about what the future holds for the Millington Chamber of Commerce with Linda at its helm. She demonstrated many strengths in the interview process. I have every confidence that she will successfully guide the Chamber into the future. I look forward to working with her.”
