Millington Public Library has an active summer reading program for children and teenagers. They also have a fall writing program for youngsters.
In October, Millington students were invited to participate in the Ghost Writers Contest.
This month there is a new contest. The library has recently announced its December short story contest with the topic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
The story may be fiction or non-fiction, and should be 1,000 words or fewer. Stories may be handwritten or typed, on one side of the paper only.
Each entry must be labeled at the top right-hand corner of each page with the first and last name of the writer, his/her phone number, and his/her age. Submissions must be received no later than 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 19.
Winners will be announced on the library’s Facebook page on Dec. 31. Prizes must be picked up by Jan. 7, 2015.

The library will be busy in December. Starting Dec. 1, the Millington Public Library will be having a Food for Fines program. Readers with overdue books can submit one can of food to pay off a one dollar fine, for a maximum of 10 cans for $10.
On Dec. 6, Khaliah Davis, the high schools program manager for Kaplan K-12 and College Prep, will be offering a free SAT practice test at 10:30 a.m.
There is no charge, but participants must sign up in advance. (There will be a practice ACT test in February.)
Also on Dec. 6, the city Christmas parade will march past the library at 3 p.m. M*A*S*H, the Millington Animal Safe Haven, hopes to return to the library sometime during the month of December, but the date has not yet been set. The deadline for the Young Writers Contest is Friday, Dec. 19, at 4 p.m.
