By Thomas Sellers Jr.

National Signing Day MunfordNational Signing Day 2015 was a full out celebration at Munford High School. Principal Dr. Courtney Fee, other administrators, football coaches and players joined the quartet of Xavier Throckmorton, McKenzie Russell, Trae Doty and Brytain Peddy for their signings to Bethel University and The University of Memphis.

Up first to the signing table was Peddy. The 6’5, 310-pound lineman will be heading to Memphis to play for the Tigers and Head Coach Justin Fuente. The Tigers are coming off a 10-win season, an American Athletic Conference championship and Miami Beach Bowl victory.

Peddy comes to Memphis with several awards, an Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game selection and member of the Munford Cougar turnaround of a 7-4 campaign.

The trio of Doty, Russell and Throckmorton were a huge part of the Cougars finishing as runner-ups in District 13-3A in 2014 and reaching the Class 5A playoffs.

Doty was a leader on defense as a linebacker. Russell was an explosive defensive end and linebacker distributing plays. And Throckmorton provided speed and athleticism in the secondary. The three will be heading to Bethel University next season to play for the Wildcats.

Bethel Assistant Coach and former Munford Cougar Paul Frazier said Wildcat Head Coach Chris Elliot are excited to have three quality players coming to McKenzie. He added the three players will have a chance to contribute right away to the Wildcats.
