One teacher and three students were recognized by MCHS’ Doris Frazier and Jeana Decker for the monthly honors.
The Teacher of the Month was Amy Ingram and Student of the Month was presented to Efren Luna Pelaez. And a male and female student were selected for the Outstanding Trojan Award with Jordan Howell and Devin McSwain. The quartet’s photos were on display the entire month in the MCHS Cafeteria.
The START committee at Millington Central High School came back again to select the January winners. START exists to award and recognize different members of the MCHS faculty, staff, and student body. Each month, we as a committee select an Academic Student of the Month, an Outstanding Male Trojan of the Month, Outstanding Female Trojan of the Month, and Teacher of the Month. With the help of our generous sponsor, Chick-fi-la of Millington and our wonderful PTSA, we are able to award these individuals with a certificate and gift. Our aim is to make the community of Millington aware of all of the great teachers, students, and businesses that make up the place we call home.
Outstanding MCHS members- January
Academic Student of the Month
Hunter Beckham is a junior at Millington Central High School.  He is considering attending the University of Tennessee Knoxville and majoring in Engineering. He recently attended a program at UT-K for upcoming engineers.  He currently has a weighted GPA of 4.34 and a unweighted GPA of 4.0. Hunter will be going with MCHS “Travelers Group” to Belize this summer.
Outstanding Trojan Male:
Avyon Bess is a junior at Millington Central High School. Avyon has outstanding character. His is incredibly respectful, honest, and kind which is abnormal in our schools. He not only treats his teachers with respect and kindness but he acts with the same kindness to his peers. He is a great role model for what a young man should behave like. He is a hard-worker, asks insightful questions, and is always willing to help. He is kind to everyone in class- regardless of their differences or unique attributes.
Outstanding Trojan Female:
Vy is a freshman at Millington Central High School. She came from Vietnam in September speaking very little English. She studies 4-5 hours after school each day and seeks every opportunity for tutoring and assistance. Her work ethic is unmatched. This student currently has all As and Bs in her classes. This is amazing for a student with very little English skills and attributed to her very hard work.
Teacher of the Month
Mickey Wilhite is a 15-year veteran teacher at Millington Central High School. She is not only an alum of MCHS, but also a third generation teacher at the school. Mrs. Wilhite is dedicated to her students and their success. Many of her students just call her momma and her room their house. Mrs. Wilhite is one of those teachers that students remember as the one that made the difference. She never fails to give her students or fellow teachers an encouraging word and a smile. She is a true asset to MCHS.
