The winter weather has thrown the basketball schedules into a blinder.
When the spinning stops, the Region 7-3A Tournament is scheduled to kick off Monday night. The Region pits District 14-3A vs. District 13-3A. Last night the Arlington Gymnasium, the District 14-3A Tournaments were finally settled with the Cordova Wolves taking the boys’ title and Bartlett girls finishing first.
As for District 13-3A involving area teams Brighton and Munford, the tournament is scheduled to conclude Saturday at Dyer County setting the schedule for Region.
In District 14-3A action, the third place game for the boys was won by Bolton 90-80 over Bartlett. Those two teams will travel to the either Dyer County or Hardin County next week.
Cordova earned the District 14-3A Boys Tournament title with a 56-43 victory over the Arlington Tigers. The Wolves and Tigers will host either Munford or Brighton when Region action begins.
The District 14-3A Girls’ Tournament crowned the Bartlett Lady Panthers champions. Bartlett outlasted Arlington 46-43. The Lady Panthers and Lady Tigers will host either the Brighton Lady Cardinals or Hardin County Lady Tigers.
The District 13-3A Girls’ Tournament title comes down to the rivals Munford Lady Cougars or Dyer County Lady Choctaws. Those teams will host an opening round Region game against either Cordova or Bolton. The Lady Wolves beat the Bolton Lady Wildcats 69-56 to finish third in District 14-3A.
All week West Tennessee was hit by snow, sleet and ice causing postponements of both tournaments. Saturday’s forecast in Dyer County is calling for dry weather and temperatures in the 50s. It has been more than a week since the schools of District 13-3A have seen the court.
The action kicks off 3 p.m. with the girls’ doubleheader. Brighton plays Hardin County in the consolation game followed by Dyer County vs. Munford in the championship game at 4:30 p.m.
Then the boys take to the court with Munford vs. Brighton in the third-place game. Dyer County will face Hardin County in the final game of the night for the boys’ championship.
Region 7-3A action will start Monday at the higher seeds. The teams advancing will play the rest of the week at Munford High School.
