Star Staff Reports

Tennessee BeautifulMEMPHIS —Tennesseans, get ready to Paint the State Green, as Governor Bill Haslam has designated March 2015 as Keep Tennessee Beautiful (KTnB) Month.
In recognition of this honor, as well as the 2015 Great American Cleanup, KTnB along with the Pigeon Forge Hospitality Association and Keep Sevier Beautiful will host the Keep Tennessee Beautiful Month/Paint the State Green Kick-off Event on March 12, at the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show Theatre in Pigeon Forge at 11:30 a.m.
Several representatives across the state are speaking at the event including Dave Jones, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development East Tennessee Regional Manager; Mark Braswell, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Regional Director of External Affairs; Shawn Bible, Tennessee Department of Transportation Director of the Beautification Office; and Missy Marshall, the Executive Director of KTnB.
“The purpose of this special awareness event is to encourage more people to get involved in the Great American Cleanup (March 1 – May 31) in our beautiful state,” said KTnB Executive Director Missy Marshall. “Last year we once again achieved 100 percent county participation from all 95 counties, but we know that we can improve upon this by getting even more volunteers from across the state to take a greater pride in their own communities by hosting and participating in neighborhood cleanups, as well as educating our citizens on how to properly dispose and recycle the waste that we all create daily.”
In 2014, a total of 17,105 citizens in 195 communities participated in the Great American Cleanup in Tennessee, removing litter and graffiti, recycling materials and junked vehicles, and beautifying neighborhoods.
Let’s all strive to make this year even better.
