The Millington and Shelby County fire departments responded to a fire April 22 at the Millington Oaks Apartments.
The MFD received the call at 4:43 p.m. and was on the scene two minutes later. Millington engines No. 335, 332 and 334 arrived along with Fire Chief Gary Graves. Also responding were Shelby County Rescue 66, Batallion 22 and District Chief 201 along with AM Unit 621 and 603.
According to residents on the scene and the MFD, the fire started in Apr. No. 2 when food left unattended on the stove caught fire. The fire damage was done mostly to the kitchen of that unit. The two adjacent apartments received smoke damage along with the two units above.
No one was hurt or transported to the hospital. The firefighters got the flames under control keeping the other units from fire damage. Motorists said the fire could be spotted about 8-feet high from Navy Road. And smoke could be seen from the Plaza Shopping Center on Church Street.
