By Linda Cooper

chinese auction 1 chinese auction 2The Eighth Annual Crisis Center Chinese Auction hosted by St. William Catholic Church on Saturday, April 25th, was the “best ever” according to Millington Crisis Center Executive Director Lois Wilber.
The fundraising event drew some 200 attendees who enjoyed a spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings and an auction, where tickets were used to bid on a wide range of household items, plants, gift certificates and gift baskets. Winning tickets were drawn for each item.
Wilber said this year’s event raised the most money ever, $1,460, to help defray the expenses for operating the center. “This money came in just when we need it to cover the cost of our insurance bill.”
Wilber added, ”We are so grateful to the St. William women’s club and the Knights of Columbus for all of their hard work making this event such a success, and also thankful to everyone who came to the auction to support the center.
Wilber noted donated items are still needed for a few families who have lost their homes due to fires. Household items needed include: dishes, pots and pans, glasses, silverware, sheets and towel.
Baby toiletry items also are always needed including wipes, diapers, shampoo and lotion.
The Millington Crisis Center is located at 8133 Wilkinsville Road and is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday. For additional information, to volunteer or offer assistance call the Millington Crisis Center at 872-4357, email or visit the center’s page on Facebook at
