EDU Legion Scholarship 2015The Harry M. Crawford American Legion Post 252, Millington announced a $1,000 scholarship award to Hunter S. Markley of Munford High School. He is attending The University of Tennessee majoring in Pre-Medical. Markley is the son of Christopher and Katherine Markley of Munford and grandson of Richard and Faith Markley of Millington. The annual scholarship was started several years ago in memory of Harry M. Crawford and is usually awarded to a member of the American Legion Family.

Month of June
The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

The Millington Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Pig N Whistle located at 6084 Kerrville Rosemark Road. For more information, call George Crews at 872-4232 or e-mail

The Millington Quilters Guild meets every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maple Room located at 7942 Church Street. Weekly activities and projects are developed for all levels of quilters. This group makes several items to give back to groups such as veterans, families in need, those injured overseas, and children’s hospital’s.

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Soul Out Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meal are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street from noon to 1 p.m. The program is a local non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Sarge’s Okinawan Freestyle Martial Arts will started April 1 at Baker Community Center in Millington. The American Wado-Ryu Federation International Hall of Fame Enductee Shihan R.L. “Sarge” Covin will be the instructor on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The classes are free for children ages 5-18. Concerts by the Lake
The city of Millington’s free summer Concerts by the Lake at USA Stadium will begin Friday June 12 from 6-8:30 p.m. Scheduled for later in the series are Southern Edition June 19 – Down 2 Five June 26 – Twin Soul July 10. For more information, call 873-5770

Playhouse 51 presents VINTAGE HITCHCOCK: A Radio Play starting this weekend. The Millington community theater group will present the production June 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and June 14 and 21 at 2 p.m. at the Harvell Civic Center located at 8077 Wilkinsville Road. June 13
Millington City Beautiful Gardening Series continues June 13 at 11 a.m. with Don Wear, Memphis Area Master Gardener focusing on “Roses.” The seminar will be held at the Millington Farmer’s Market located at 5152 Easley Street. It it free and for more information call 872-2609.

June 22-26
Fun Run Vacation Bible School will be held at Millington First United Methodist Church located at 8029 Wilkinsville Road in Millington. The VBS will be from June 22–26, lasting from 6 to 8 p.m. each night. To register a child Pre K to fith grade, visit the website at and click on “Forms” or stop by the church office. This June
Join The Millington Municipal Schools’ Summer STEM Camp, “The City of the Future,” for middle school students interested in hands-on science, engineering, and math projects.
The Millington Municipal Schools’ Summer STEM Camp for students’ grades 6-8 will be held June 11-19 at Millington Central High School. The camp will begin at 8 a.m. and end at noon Monday through Friday each week.  Students attending Millington Municipal Schools last year or those having been accepted for open enrollment for next year may apply; there is no fee to attend.
“The City of the Future” STEM Camp is designed to give middle school students the opportunity to engage in a variety of hands-on construction technologies, scientific experiments, and real world math skills needed to explore new and emerging science and technology.
Using Physics and Engineering skills, students will design and build their model city of the future, water bottle rockets, earthquake proof towers, solar cars, and bridges.  Students will have the opportunity to use Biology and Chemistry lab skills to explore the properties of safe drinking water compared to safe natural water systems needed by wildlife.
