2015 Millington Central High School Student of the Year — Josh Taylor

EDU Taylor Student of Year 6-4Millington Central High School has teamed up with Trustmark Bank in Millington to sponsor a new honor for graduating seniors – the Student of the Year contest.  Millington Central High School Assistant Principal Beth Hale worked with Trustmark Millington Branch Manager Deborah Cates this past spring to set up an essay contest to choose the first MCHS Student of the Year. Entries were submitted by the 12 seniors appointed to the MCHS Hall of Fame because of their involvement in academics, athletics, club participation and community service.  The subject the students were to address in their essays was the legacy they would like to leave at MCHS. A team of Trustmark associates reviewed the essays and the unanimous choice for the best essay was Joshua Taylor.  Taylor is a student athlete who played football all four years at MCHS. In addition to athletics, Taylor was also involved in Beta Club, the National Honor Society and Special Friends, a club where students interact with special education students through games and tutoring.  In his essay, Taylor says of his involvement with Special Friends, “Ironically, when I thought I was changing their lives they left a legacy with me.  They have taught me more than I could imagine.  The friendships I have with these kids are the ones I will cherish forever.”  Taylor ended his essay by stating “Your legacy is what you make it.  You can’t control the cards you are dealt, only how you play them.”  Trustmark’s Deborah Cates attended the MCHS Awards Banquet in May and presented Taylor with the Trustmark Bank MCHS Student of the Year trophy and a $100 Visa gift card.
