James Franklin Gleaves, age 57, of Millington, died suddenly near his home on Thursday, June 4, 2015. In his younger years he was a member of boy scouts, the Frayser Judo Club, The Bluff City Judo Club and was well known in the martial arts community both locally and nationally. He devoted most of his life in service to God, his fellow man, community, and country. He worked for several law enforcement agencies including the Memphis Police Department, Jackson Police Department, Millington Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, and Brighton Police Department. He also served in the United States Army, having volunteered for infantry, as a paratrooper, and assignment to the 75th Ranger Regiment. He is preceded in death by his father Charles and mother Louise, both of Memphis. He is survived by his Aunt Monnie George, cousins Julia George, of Millington, Linda George Kemper (Mark) and John Holcomb (Karen). He will be very fondly remembered by a few close friends, countless strangers he devoted his life to help, and several children of his friends, which he helped raise and mentor during his life. Services was held Saturday, June 20, 2015. He will be interned at Northridge-Woodhaven Cemetery. Northridge-Woodhaven Funeral Home located at 6755 Hwy 51 North, Millington, TN, has charge of the services. NorthridgeWoodhaven_PMS1color
