About 3:50 this afternoon, a severe thunderstorm hit the Memphis area. Ten minutes later the storm passed through Millington leaving damage with fallen trees and blow roof tops.
The powerful winds and lighting was part of a front that dropped the temperatures from the mid-90s to the low 70s.
Memphis Light Gas and Water reported about 5 p.m. about 28,000 accounts are without power because of the severe weather moving through the area. That likely means more than 40,000 people, are affected.
According to MLG&W, the hardest hit area is just outside of Bartlett, South Memphis and Collierville. For more outage updates visit, www.mlgw.com
