The 2015 Millington Lady Trojan Volleyball team is loaded with talented sophomores including Head Coach Jenna Harper.
Entering her second season with the black and gold, Harper has compiled a group of senior leaders and 10th graders ready to live up to their promise moving into a new Class 2A district.
“I’m really excited because we have a really awesome sophomore class,” she said. “They’ve played together for a whole year now. And we have some good senior leadership. Joining the new district, we have a good chance at competing at the top of the district. We’re really looking forward to being a lot more competitive and getting a lot more W’s this year.”
Harper’s first season at Millington was a tale of a new team adjusting to their coach, giving birth to a daughter and trying to survive in a league featuring powers like Arlington, Bartlett and Bolton.
Now the Lady Trojans will move into a new league with Ripley, Haywood, Covington, Liberty, Jackson Christian School and JCM.
To get ready for the league schedule, Millington will play old rivals like Brighton and Bartlett.
“I have multiple girls who can play two spots,” Harper noted. “They can play either middle and outside, or middle and right side. The only one I have set in stone is Paige Hall. She’s my full-time setter.
“I have two defensive players Lily Morton and Camila,” she continued. “I have good outside hitters in Ashley Freeze, Ally Hall, Addison Coulter, Diamond Green, Autumn Taylor and our new girl Divine. I have a lot of girls who are returning.”
With a squad loaded with potential, Harper said her 2015 Lady Trojans can reach their preseason goal and make a deep run into October.
“One of our team goals is to put a banner up on the wall,” she concluded. “District champions is our goal. It’s really doable if the girls work hard, stay consistent and discipline and we stay free of injuries. We should have a really good chance at competing for a district championship.”
