Glimpse into Tipton Basketball’s Future

The double header last Thursday went in the favor of both Brighton Cardinal teams with the girls beating the Munford Lady Cougars 47-25. In the second game, the Brighton Cardinals outlasted the Munford Cougars 31-18.
The night started in the Brighton Middle School Gymnasium with the Lady Cardinal duo of Albonie Dunn and Sylvia Jones helping Brighton achieve a 13-2 lead.
The Lady Cougars made a comeback in the second quarter outscoring Brighton 12-0 behind the point guard play of Maiya Reed.
Reed made the score 13-8 driving to the rim for a layup. Then Reed located teammate Mary Richardson inside for a bucket.
Munford cut the deficit to 13-12 when Demiyah Gatlin made a layup. Gatlin gave the Lady Cougars the lead with a jumper at 14-13.
The final minutes of the first half would belong to Lady Cardinal Felia Fayne. The forward tied the game at 14-14 with a free throw. Then Fayne was the target of Head Coach Russ Jones.
The guards found her twice in the paint for buckets to make the halftime score 18-14 in favor of Brighton.
The Lady Cardinals went back to the attack of Dunn and Jones to increase the lead to 34-20 after three quarters. In the final period, Brighton got contributions from Andi Coulston and Caresha Lewis to win by 22 points and improve to 7-0.
In boys’ action, the score was tied at 2-2 after one quarter. Then Brighton picked up the scoring in the second quarter with baskets from Morgan Moody, Nick Johnson and Keionte Newson to make the score 9-2.
The Cougars ended the Brighton 7-0 run when TJ Tyus hit a three-pointer. Brighton led 13-8 at the break. The Cardinal maintain the lead taking a 21-14 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Brighton iced the game behind the athletic play of Moody. The forward was all over the court on defense and made a couple of buckets late in the contest.
The rematch is scheduled for Dec. 17 at Munford Middle School.
