BREAKING NEWS: Prepare for Possible Tornados and Severe Storms Today

shelby logoThe National Weather Service has placed the Mid-South in the enhanced risk area for severe thunderstorms Wednesday. The timeline could occur in 2 waves: from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for North East Arkansas and North West Tennessee, with the second wave from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for West Tennessee and North Mississippi. The main threat is the possibility of tornadoes, hail, damaging winds and heavy rain.

 “Our staff at the Shelby County Office of Preparedness will continue to monitor the weather conditions and stay in close contact with the National Weather Service and Tennessee Emergency Management Agency,” said Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

 “We encourage everyone to review their family weather plan and be ready to take shelter,” said the Director of the Shelby County Office of Preparedness Dale Lane.

 “Citizens need to be on the alert.  We urge them to monitor the forecasts and listen to NOAA radio,” said Jim Belles, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

 SKYWARN spotters may be activated Wednesday to report severe weather and damages to the National Weather Service.
