The Munford Lady Cougars were having a “Super” week entering Friday’s game against the rival Brighton Lady Cardinals.
Playing defense like the Denver Broncos on Feb. 2, Munford picked up a 71-57 win over the Dyer County Lady Choctaws. Lady Cougar Johnna Jones was like Carolina Panther Cam Newton giving her team an offense boost with 25 points. Her teammate Gabby Crawford chipped in 23 points in the winning effort.
Fast forward to Friday and the Brighton Lady Cardinals entered the Munford Gymnasium looking for the upset. But Jones kept up her MVP level of play hitting 5 three-pointers against Brighton to lead her team with 21 points. Munford remained perfect in District 13-3A play beating the Lady Cardinals 62-29.
One scouting reports on the 2015-16 Brighton Cardinals is to try to shutdown the backcourt of Taeylr Gatlin and Tramaine Cooper.
The Munford Cougars were fully aware of that entering Friday night’s game in the Munford Gymnasium. But Brighton Head Coach Stan Gatlin knew he had a X-factor from the perimeter in Zach Lewis.
Sharpening his shooting skills in practice and with old playground games, Lewis hit a couple of three-pointers and some timely layups to help Brighton win the game 54-36 over Munford.
