If they awarded the 2016 District 13-3A Boys Basketball Tournament MVP after the semifinals, Brighton’s Zach Lewis would be taking the plaque home.
Friday night the Cardinal guard/forward scored 16 point in the first half against the Hardin County Tigers. Lewis’ night ended with 26 points on 80 percent shooting from the Brighton Gymnasium floor.
He grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 2 assists in helping Brighton beat Hardin County 59-27 to advance to Tuesday night’s championship game.
DISTRICT 13-3A SEMIFINAL: Dyer County 67, Munford 64
In years past and earlier this season, that appeared to be good enough to defeat the Munford Cougars. But Friday night the Cougars came out with a new attitude to take on the Dyer County Choctaws in the District 13-3A Boys Basketball Tournament Semifinal. Munford shined on the Brighton Gymnasium court throughout the first half building a 34-26 lead at halftime over the No. 1 seeded Choctaws.
Then Dyer County turned up the pressure pressing the Cougars from base line to base line. The Choctaws erased the deficit to prevail 67-64 and advance to the title game Tuesday night at 7:30 against the Brighton Cardinals. Meanwhile the Cougars had to settle for the consolation round Tuesday night against the Hardin County Tigers at 6 p.m.
