“We are very proud to be involved in our local community, awarding three education scholarships each year to graduating seniors,” Jones said.
Lowery continued with, “We are fortunate to proffer four Junior High attendees to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award conference, recognized internationally as RYLA. Also we distribute dictionaries to all the local third grade students.”
Robbie conversed, “One of our primary goals is the eradication of Polio, as presently the number has rescinded to 80 cases in Afghanistan and Pakistan.”  Robbie reminded all the facilitation of the crisis center, library, and literary affiliation.
District Governor Cary Vaughn vigorously complimented the local Rotary Club on the hard work and accomplishments presently and previous years. Vaughn said “as District Governor I visit nine clubs in Shelby County and 30 clubs is North Mississippi. I congratulate Millington on the superb job each member does and the sacrifices that are made.”  
“Service Above Self” certainly is prevalent in this organization. 
“Our aspiration is to make our community a better place to live,” Jones said.  “What monies we incur during our functions is returned to the city.  Please continue to support our annual Taste of Millington, Younglife, University Of Memphis involvements”.
Everyone is welcomed to visit  the Rotary’s weekly meetings at the Patriot Bank on Thursdays at noon.

Month of February
-The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.
-The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.
-Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.
The Millington Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Pig N Whistle located at 6084 Kerrville Rosemark Road. For more information, call George Crews at 872-4232 or e-mail
-Soul Out Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meal are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street from noon to 1 p.m. The program is a local non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Feb. 27
Millington AAU Basketball tryouts will be held this Saturday at the North 82 Gym from 2 to 4 p.m. for seventh graders. For more information, call 691-3213.
March 3
iDAMAE will be appearing in concert with bass guitarist Willie Williams at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street, Wednesday March 3 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Dixie Echoes, a Southern Gospel Quartet, will be in concert at Grace Baptist Church on Saturday evening, March 5 at 6 p.m. The church is located at 9171 Brunswick Road in the Rosemark area. March 7
The March meeting of the Lucy Garden Club will be held March 7. The guest speakers for March are Terry and Teresa Nance of Bayless Nursery on Walsh Road. They will be discussing new plant introductions for this year. The Club will meet at the Lucy Wedding Chapel at 6185 Chase Road in Millington. The meeting starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. with the guest speaker followed by refreshments and than the business meeting.  All neighbors in North Shelby County and the surrounding communities are invited to attend this free presentation.  For more information, call Tom Mashour at 872-3593 or 337-0046.
March 12
Millington Elementary is hosting a Spring Fling on March 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will consist of 40 or more silent auction baskets, vendor booths, concessions, pie the teacher, kiss a pig and inflatables for the kids.
