Cassy’s Prom

Cassy's PromProm night is almost every teen girl’s dream. And for Millington Middle School student Cassy Colunga that dream came true last week when the community came together to host a special prom just for her.
The Millington 14-year-old is battling brain cancer. Several friends, “Team Cassy,” in the Millington community wanted to make her wish of a prom night come true. Some of those involved were Chrys Graham, Spencer Gaia, Stephen Graham, Bailey Perkins, Patty Stutts Pope and more. From her make-up to her dress, Colunga was the star of the evening. She arrived in a limo with a host of friends to the Peabody Hotel in Downtown Memphis. And her dates of Noah Graham and Spencer Gaia enjoyed the evening dancing and taking pictures with Colunga.  The duo asked Colunga to the prom via Cassy’s Promposal (which can be found on Since her diagnoses in Sept. 2014, Colunga has endured chemo treatments at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Since that time, Cassy has inspired her family, friends, classmates and community through her being a face for childhood cancer.
Donations ranging in free make-up and hair, a free limo ride, DJ, and everything they needed to organize and provide a prom at the Peabody Hotel in Downtown Memphis, all paid for, had come together.
