April 9
Volunteers needed for the April 9 Millington Citywide Litter Pick-Up. Come out this Saturday if you’re looking for a way to help beautify Millington. Come join fellow residents for the annual City Beautiful Citywide Litter Pick-Up. The group will meet at Aycock Park, located at 7330 Renda Street at 8:30 a.m. Teams will be sent out to pick up trash along well traveled roadways. T-shirts, gloves and trash bags will be provided. In appreciation of volunteers, Millington City Beautiful will serve lunch at 11:30. Volunteers will be given certificates for 3 hours of community service. Millington City Beautiful Gardening Series continues Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m., with “Shade Gardening” presented by Anne Krekelberg, a Memphis Area Master Gardener. The event will take place at Baker Community Center located at 7942 Baker Street in Millington. It is free to the public. For more information call 872-2609.

The River City Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is hosting a prospective members workshop on Saturday, April 30 at the Tipton County Public Library, 3149 Highway 51 South in Covington.
The workshop is free to those women 18 years of age or older who are interested in learning about the work of the DAR and about the application process to become a member. As seating is limited , attendance is by reservation only with a deadline of April 23. To reserve a seat, contact River City Chapter at 1990rivercity@gmail.com or 440-9585.  Registration check in on the day of the workshop begins a 9:30 a.m.
April 23
The Millington Crisis Center and St. William Catholic Church are joining forces to raise money for the Crisis Center and the church. The Ninth Annual Chinese Auction will be held on Saturday April 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center at St. Williams located at 8027 West Street in Millington. The Auction will be preceded by a spaghetti dinner cooked by the Knights of Columbus. Price of the dinner is $10 a person and includes 20 tickets for the Chinese Auction. Bidders win by placing their numbered tickets in the container in front of the item they wish to bid on.  As tickets are drawn the number of the willing ticket is called and that person claims the item. This is a fun evening and everyone in the community is invited. Advance tickets are available at the church office or by contacting Bitha Luze at 872-3635 or Shirley Maes at 647-6111. Additional auction tickets can be purchased the night of the auction.
May 7-8
The Turtle Island Native American Association will present the 11th Annual Turtle Island Powwow May 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at USA Stadium.
This year’s special guest will be John T. Wayne. The author of numerous books on the Civil War and Old West is the grandson of the “Duke” John Wayne.
The younger Wayne’s books focuses on orphans that grew up to become the cowboys most Americans know like Judge Isaac Parker, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill and Nat Love. There are admission fees with Military in uniform free. Concessions will be available. For more information, call 876-4015.
