Optimist winners

Cal Millington Optimist Club photo 3-17On March 10 meeting at the Old Timers Restaurant, The Millington Optimist Club recognized the top three contestants in the Optimist essay contest. The essay was entitled “Lead By Example: Reality Or Fiction.” The top contestant was presented a medallion and all three were presented framed certificates by club president, David Adams. All three contestants and their families attended the presentation and were guest of the Optimists for dinner. The winning contestants were, first place – Amanda Leatherwood, second place –  Loren Carmichael, and third place – Meera Patel. All three are seniors at Arlington High School and are headed for College after graduation. The first place winner will compete in TenArk-wide competition which will take place on April 22, in Conway, Ark., where the top District essays will be presented to delegates to the Optimist District meeting and the winning student will be presented with a $2,500 scholarship. The Millington Optimist Club meets each month on the second and fourth Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Old Timers Restaurant. For additional information contact Cathy Barrington, secretary 872-3419.
