Applications Being Taken for the Mayor’s Youth Council

Star Staff Reports

shelby-county-sealShelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. wants young people to give their insights and perspectives about government by serving on the Mayor’s Youth Council.

“This is our third year for the council. It’s vital for elected officials to get ideas and suggestions from our next generation of leaders,” said Mayor Luttrell.

Last year, the 30-member council attended presentations about Shelby County Government and held a mock 2016 Presidential debate. The students also attended Government Day activities and even helped a local Memphis company design a youth marketing campaign.

Membership requirements:

  •   Have at least a 2.5 GPA
  •   Participate in Government Day activities on Friday, January 6, 2017
  •   Attend at least 10 of 14 council sessions from August 2016 – May 2017

Applications for the Mayor’s Youth Council must be filled out online by midnight, May 22, 2016 at: https://surveymonkey.com/r/98FRZ6H
