Quilter 1 Quilters 2The Millington Quilters Guild held its annual show last month at the Harvell Civic Center. There were a wide variety of quilts and other handcrafted items on display. In addition to individual projects, the guild does a great deal of charity work crafting toys and blankets for children at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, quilts for wounded military personnel and Christmas stockings for the senior citizen residents of Wesley in Millington. Dixie Crisel, 7, of Millington stands in front of a cupcake quilt made by guild member Kate Finley. Standing by one of her quilts on display, guild member Lita Farley said, “I enjoy quilting.”

The National Day of Prayer will be May 5. Munford’s observances will be held that day at Munford City Park located at 101 College St. at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to turn to God in prayer and meditation for our nation and our leaders.  It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.  The city of Millington is hosting a National Day of Prayer observance on May 5 at the Harvell Civic Center located at 8077 Wilkinsville Road in Millington.  The ceremony will take place from 7-8 p.m. with a short musical program by the Millington Central High School Choir to begin at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

May 7-8
The Turtle Island Native American Association will present the 11th Annual Turtle Island Powwow May 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at USA Stadium.
This year’s special guest will be John T. Wayne. The author of numerous books on the Civil War and Old West is the grandson of the “Duke” John Wayne.
The younger Wayne’s books focuses on orphans that grew up to become the cowboys most Americans know like Judge Isaac Parker, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill and Nat Love. There are admission fees with Military in uniform free. Concessions will be available. For more information, call 876-4015.

May 14
Fellowship Baptist Church FLC will be hosting a Fish Fry Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., at 4635 Quito Drummonds Road in Millington. There will be pond-raised catfish, white beans, fries, cole slaw, hushpuppies, tea or coffee and dessert.

May 16
Health Department Director Dr. Alisa Haushalter will be the guest speaker to grant the Jones-Phillips Civic Club information on the Zika Virus. The Club’s personal business meeting will be 5:30- 6:15 p.m. Invite your friends and neighbors of this meeting. The meeting is scheduled for May 15 at Bethlehem Baptist Church located at 8808 Bethuel Road in  Millington. For more information, call 831-8139.

May 19
The National Active & Retired Federal EmployeesAssociation, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon Thursday, May 19 at Applebee’s Grill & Bar, 8472 Highway 51 in Millington. For more information, call Carolyn Cribbis at 413-7123.
May 21
There will be a gospel concert by The Road to Emmaus Quartet at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3099 West Union Road, in Millington on May 21 at 6 p.m. followed by a potluck dinner. A love offering will be taken for The Road to Emmaus Quartet. Come hear the gospel music and bring your best potluck dish.  For more information call Debbie at 876-5757.

May 28
The Youth Spaghetti Dinner and Auction will be on May 28.  The meal starts at 5 p.m. and the auction at 6 p.m.  If you have any items to donate, contact Diana Meinweiser at 835-3352 or Brother Jim at 481-5757.  The dinner and auction will be held in the Family Living Center at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3999 West Union Road in Millington.

June 11
On behalf of Millington Trojan Football Head Coach Chris Michael and the entire Trojan Football Program, you are invited to participate in the annual Trojan Football Classic Golf Scramble. This year’s 4-man Scramble will be held on Saturday, June 11 at Glen Eagle Golf Course.
All of the proceeds will go towards the Trojan Football program and helps us keep down costs to the players, parents, coaches, and the School.
