The Brighton Lady Cardinals made the trip to the 2016 Class 3A State Softball Tournament last week in Murfreesboro. The Lady Cardinals led by Head Coach Robin Jacobs played three games at the Murfreesboro Sports Complex & McKnight Fields. Last Tuesday, Brighton started the State Tournament taking on Stewarts Creek dropping a 2-0 decision.
Brighton moved into the bottom bracket and survival mode. The Lady Cardinals led by senior pitcher Seeley Layne outlasted Seymour for a 6-5 victory Wednesday.
The win gave Layne her 64th in her career at Brighton tying the school record.
Layne’s chance to own the record came Thursday morning against Gibbs. But the Lady Cardinals suffered a 2-1 defeat.
Brighton finished the 2016 season as District 13-3A regular-season and tournament champs. The Lady Cardinals also brought home the Region 7-3A title and a Sub-State victory over Houston to finish the season 30-11-1. The Lady Cardinals were also coached by Emily Stewart and Caroline Jacobs.
