The Millington Trojan senior was all over the field in 2016. He even had a hat trick in the opening game. He was among the leaders in assists for the Trojans and was a key defensive player on the opposing team’s best scorer.

Baseball Star of the Season

Steve Kendricks

The Munford senior was the best player on one of the best teams in District 13-3A. Part of the Cougars surprising the league and reaching Regionals was the play of Hindman. The All-District player was one of the leaders in hits, runs and RBIs for Munford.

Softball Star of the Season

Taylor Beasley

The Tipton-Rosemark Academy freshman led the team in wins with her pitching. But her production at the plate was crucial in the Lady Rebels reaching Sub-State. Whitley contributed to the State championship team last season as an eighth grader and displayed in her freshman campaign her future is getting brighter.

Softball Pitching Star of the Season

The 2016 season was historic for Layne as she tied the all-time school record for wins. She picked up a win at this year’s Class 3A State Tournament. She pitched the most innings and led the Brighton Lady Cardinals in victories to finish off her high school career.

Baseball Pitching Star of the Season

Joseph Fulcher

The Munford senior pitcher was named an West Tennessee All-Star along with teammates Jacob Sawyer and Dusty Baker. Fulcher will be heading to Vanderbilt after finishing up another solid season on the mound for the Cougars. He helped Munford win the District 13-3A Tournament and reach Regionals with his work from the mound.

Boys’ Track Star of the Season

Walter Miller

The Millington Trojan brought home a pair of medals from Murfreesboro on May 27. He participated in the Class A-AA 200m and 400m events. He took the silver medal in the 200m and finished fourth in the 400m. His time in the 400m was 50.43. In the 200m race, Miller ran 21.73 on the Middle Tennessee State University track.

Girls’ Newcomer of the Year

Taliyah Brown

The Brighton Lady Cardinals picked up their first win of the basketball season back in November in large part to freshman guard Taliyah Brown stepping up in the clutch. She was called on to step up in the overtime with ball-handling and running the offense. She made clutch foul shots to help beat Memphis Catholic giving Head Coach Tiffany Porter her first win at Brighton. The rest of the season Brown earned starting time and continued her progress as a point guard.

Boys’ Newcomer of the Year

Carter Weakley

The Tipton-Rosemark Academy underclassman made his return to the school in a big way jumping into the starting lineup of the basketball team. He is a combo guard that can shoot and drive to the basket. He will be counted on to run the offense more with the graduation of Johnie Sanfratello. Look for Carter to be one of the top scorers in the near future and use his athleticism in many ways on the TRA campus.
