The Millington Arts Council kicked off their inaugural art exhibit showcasing the talent of three area artists. Lori Campbell, Valerie Shavers, and Christine Yates participated in the event and displayed over 40 pieces of original art at the Millington Civic Center from June 10 – June 19th. Over 250 area residents viewed the exhibit during the Playhouse 51 “Drinking Habit” performances
Lori Campbell & Valerie Shavers are Millington Municipal School art teachers. Lori’s Aboriginal acrylic paintings and Van Gogh inspired oil pastel landscapes were lessons taught to elementary students at E.A. Harrold. Valerie’s work included oil and acrylic paintings, with a strong emphasis of creative destruction by making “Black-out Poetry” out of book pages. Christine Yates, a self-taught artist, and long time Millington resident, showcased an eclectic group of acrylic paintings representing her varied interests and of places visited.
The MAC plans to host another “Local Color” art exhibit at Playhouse 51’s performance scheduled for September. For more information about how to participate please email the MAC at email@example.com.
