The Brighton Cardinal Basketball team are building off a 19-win season this summer.
Stan Gatlin’s bunch finished the 2015-16 season one win shy of 20 and as the runner ups in District 13-3A. Brighton is trying to make the next step with a returning junior corps. featuring Taelyr Gatlin, Aaron Alston and Zach Lewis.
The Cardinals went 18-8 this summer at team camps.
“We had good double figure wins over teams like Southwind, Germantown, Obion County and Harding Academy along with a few other good teams,” Coach Gatlin said. “Taelyr led in several categories.”
At the MUS Jerry Peters Team Camp, Taelyr averaged 24 points in 6 games. Gatlin’s total of 144 points was the top at the event with Ripley’s Famous Jones tallying 140 points.
Gatling hit 17 three-pointers during his MUS stay with 13 assists during the six games. Lewis and Alston hit the boards finishing among the top ranks at MUS with 31 and 35 rebounds respectively.
The Cardinals went 2-4 at MUS losing some tough games. Brighton achieved a 5-4 mark in its first week of summer action. And the Cardinals were unbeaten at 3-0 at the Union Team Camp.
