Linda Mosley, co-founder and assistant director of the EDA Flyers AAU Track Club, just helped kickoff the first season of the Millington runners in May.
Recently, the EDA Flyers competed in Knoxville at the AUU Junior Olympics Regional Qualifiers.
“We had 18 of our 43 athletes to quality for 28 events for Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas July 31-Aug. 7,” Mosley said. “One of our 8-year-old females, Ehi Aigbomian is ranked No. 2 in the Nation in the long jump. Walter Miller one of our 17-year-male athlete beat the state of Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee current 200 meter state champion to take first place in the 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash.
“He also took third place in the 100 meter dash, and was the anchor for the 4x100m relay,” she continued. “They also won first place. That’s just a few of our accomplishment.”
The founder and director of the EDA Flyers is Coach Dennis Alexander. For years, Alexander has been influential in the Millington Community through youth and high school athletics.
“He’s Coached a number of state champions at Millington High School, Millington Middle School and SYS,” Mosley noted.
Mosley said along with expert coaching, the EDA Flyers have enjoyed local backing.
“We have received a lot of support from some of the community Bethlehem Baptist Church, Kiwanis Club, AFGEE Union on Base just to name a few,” she said.
The athletes that have qualified for the Junior Olympics are Walter Miller, Brandon Griel, Xavier Haley, Eziekel Miller, Devon Caldwell, Efe Aigbomian, Ehi Aigbomian, Colby Goode, Keshawn Triggs, Jackson Toronto, Kyle Evans, Bryce Evans, Leandrea Cooper, Kylan Shaw, Kyara Haley, Candance Parrish, Artis Hardaway, Crishawn Pratcher, Zachary Fryar and Nathan Fryar.
