Last week, emergency responders searched the Mississippi River for a missing teen David Wayne Dunn.
The search started Aug. 2 and it was was called off around midnight Wednesday for the safety of the crews because it was too dark. The search resumed around 8 a.m. Wednesday at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. He was later found deceased.
Officials said the teen was hiking with his family in Shelby Forest when he was swept away by the water near the boat dock. SCSO officials said the 14-year-old was playing on the bank and slipped on mud and fell into the Mississippi River.
Dunn, 14, of Brighton formerly of Millington was described as a hugger and he loved everyone. David loved the Tennessee Vols, to ride bikes, play basketball and football, and cut grass. He is survived by his parents, Michael Dunn of Brighton and his mother, Tracy Gail Adkins Dunn of Millington; sister Emily Dunn of Brighton; brothers Paul Dunn and Brandon Dunn both of Brighton; grandparents, Danny and Sarah Dunn of Brighton, Fran Adkins of Millington and David Adkins of San Diego, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to the Millington Crisis Center, P.O. Box 1541, Millington, TN 38053.
