Jets vs. Aggies Hoops

The newest area middle school rivalry authored its latest chapter Tuesday night in the Woodstock Middle School Gymnasium. The Aggies welcomed the E.E. Jeter Jets down from Shelby Forest for a basketball doubleheader. The Lady Aggies used a big performance from Samara Jones to prevail 19-10. Then the boys took to the court with Woodstock using a suffocating defense to overcome Jeter’s height advantage to win 43-24.
During the first game,, the Lady Jets were held to 2 points in the first half. Meanwhile the Woodstock Lady Aggies were paced by fast break buckets from Jones to lead 8-2 at the break.
Jeter started to find its shooting touch in the fourth quarter scoring 6 points. But they Lady Aggies received points from Jones, April Williams and Terrian Brooks to win by 9 points.
In boys’ action, the Aggies jumped out to a 11-3 lead in the first quarter behind buckets from Cameron Vann, Korbin Smith and Nautica Clark.
Woodstock seized control of the contest in the second quarter with Javante Brooks sparking a 8-0 run with a layup. Christian Holmes contributed to the run with a pair of triples to make the score 19-3. Jets guard Colby Mathes stopped the Woodstock run with a jumper. The Aggies were ahead 19-5 at halftime.
Woodstock outscored Jeter 13-7 in the third quarter to increase its advantage. The Jets outscored the Aggies 12-11 in the final period. Jeter’s scoring outburst was started by back-to-back jumpers from Travis Clark. A.J. Simpson closed out the scoring for night with a three-point play.
