Local entrepreneur adopts a cop

Star Staff Reports

bus-adopt-a-cop-photoChristmas is a time for giving. And that’s exactly what one young, home-based business entrepreneur did this holiday.

Jennifer Wilson turned her sights in a different direction and started her own Mary Kay Cosmetics business after 13 years of employment for a local pharmaceutical company came to an end when her employer started the initial phases of a site shutdown. Wilson is no stranger to sales or community involvement.

“I started learning these attributes at a very early age,” she said. “So all of this seemed to be a natural fit for the future.”

Wilson who grew up in Millington and also knows a lot of business/professional people in town said she realized she had a unique opportunity since she was now in business for herself.

The logical next step was to use that opportunity to “shower some Christmas love” on those in town who serve and sacrifice to keep our community safe. After lots of planning, preparation, and contacting local businesses to garner their support, Wilson’s plan was underway.

On Dec. 24 “Adopt-a-Cop” became a reality. At 6:30 Friday morning, just in time for shift change, the officers and staff were surprised by Wilson.

Along with her husband and 10-year-old son, they walked through the door bearing gifts, breakfast, hot coffee and lots of love on behalf of some very generous business men and women in the community.

“The entire police department was surprised and so appreciative of what many of the local businesses did to show their thanks and support,” Wilson said.

Wilson said she couldn’t have done it without the help of these special people in the community like Boatwright Pharmacy, Reed Family Dentistry, Dowden Powersports, C’s Jewelry and Music, Norman’s Body Shop, Dennis Wages Remax, A. Wilson Wages, Millington Floor Covering, Evans Building Maintenance, Dagen’s Living Water Christian Bookstore and Jewelry, Chick-fil-A, Southern Meat Market, McDonald’s and Starbucks.

Wilson said she already has special plans in the works for next year.

“Our community is special with some of the most caring people I know,” she concluded. “I’m sure we can put together an even bigger surprise next time.”
