The Millington Lady Trojans were only behind 21-18 at the break Friday night.
The Lady Trojans were in position to win their first District 15-2A game of the season in front of the home William Osteen Gymnasium crowd against the Ripley Lady Tigers. But the Lady Tigers outscored Millington 13-3 in the third quarter to eventually prevail 46-27.
The contest started with Ripley jumping ahead 7-0 before Alexis Jordan scored the first basket for Millington. Later in the period Lady Trojans Sky Clark and Taylor Payne made buckets helping Millington chip away at the deficit.
Ripley’s 12-8 first quarter advantage continued to decrease when Lady Trojan Elianna Chambers made a put-back bucket making the score 12-10.
The Lady Tigers went ahead 16-10 when a Kiara Kemp free throw sparked a 8-3 run. Millington senior Keyanna Jones drained a triple prior to a Clark layup. Then Chambers scored her second bucket of the period making the score 18-18. Ripley finally snapped Millington’s momentum right before halftime with a three-pointer making the score 21-18.
The Lady Tigers seized control of the momentum in the third quarter holding the Lady Trojans to a Jones three-pointer. Ripley was ahead 31-21 entering the fourth quarter.
Millington was limited to 6 points in the fourth period, meanwhile the Lady Tigers closed out the game with 15 points in the fourth quarter.
