CORDOVA — A somewhat relieved Cameron Pridemore leaned on the wall outside of his team’s locker room in the FACS Gymnasium Friday night.
The leader of the Tipton-Rosemark Academy Lady Rebels wasn’t too happy after a 49-33 victory the host FACS Lady Crusaders. But Pridemore wasn’t very upset either.
“I’m just glad we made it through,” he said. “It’s hard to find a positive for tonight. We played like we were not ready tonight. Instead of moving our feet on defense, we were too steal happy. We got through tonight.”
The Lady Rebels missed shots and had a few droughts that kept FACS within shouting distance in the first three quarters. The Lady Crusaders trailed 36-25 entering the fourth period.
TRA came into the game short-handed with Brianna Hall out of the lineup because of a concussion. The Lady Rebels depended on Abby West, Megan Sanfrantello and Jordan Allen to build an early advantage. TRA jumped out to a 16-1 lead in the first quarter.
West tallied the first 6 points with a pair of buckets in the lane. Later Sanfrantello drained a triple that made the score 13-1. TRA appeared ready race away with the win ahead 19-5 entering the second quarter.
Early in the second period the Lady Rebels got a basket from Eva McIntosh that made the score 21-7. Then TRA hit a drought not scoring for nearly 4 minutes. The Lady Rebels were ahead 29-12.
FACS outscored TRA 13-7 in the third period. Then it was Allen to the rescue in the fourth quarter with a put-back bucket to make the score 38-25.
Later Sanfrantello drilled a three-pointer. With the threat of the outside shot, Sanfrantello used a fake to drive to the rim to locate Allen for layup.
Then West was back on the attack with a basket and a steal leading to a layup making the score 47-29. Despite the Lady Crusaders making the final 6 points of the evening, TRA was victorious and improved to 21-6 on the season.
Now TRA had to process its lackluster victory and prepare to hit another gear as February is here.
“We can’t get content,” Pridemore concluded. “We have to continue to get better and work hard.”
