History took place in the Millington Central High School Library this morning with the signings of
Lady Trojan Soccer players Chelsea Ferrell and Magan Lippin.
The duo will be heading to play for the inaugural Dyersburg State Lady Eagle Soccer team this fall. The double commitment ceremony also marked the first for Millington Soccer Head Coach William Carter. The 2018 Millington Teacher of the Year was happy to be a part of a personal historic day.
“This is my first signings,” Carter noted. “I’m pretty excited. Of course the day is all about them, but I feel really good from a personal prospective because it’s always good to see high school players moving on to college and getting a chance to play college soccer.
“I know for both of them it’s a big thing,” he added. “Both didn’t think at the start of the season that they would be playing college soccer. So for them, they get to continue their careers with college soccer for two years and then who knows.”
Ferrell and Lippin will join their former rival Coach Robert Luttrell. Luttrell was the head coach at Covington this past season, taking on the Lady Trojans in district play.
Luttrell’s Lady Chargers reached State this past season. On the road to the State Tournament, Luttrell was impressed with the talents of Ferrell and Lippin.
Luttrell complimented Ferrell’s speed and athleticism on the field. He has plans to move her around the field seeing time on defense and offense.
Lippin left the impression of being a defensive stopper on Luttrell. She was the anchor on the right side of the Lady Trojan attack preventing opponents from scoring.
Both Lippin and Ferrell were captains for the Lady Trojans. Now the duo will move onto the college level for the new Dyersburg program.
Dyersburg announced the addition of Division I Women’s Soccer for the Fall semester of 2018. Luttrell was chosen to lead the Lady Eagle Soccer in their inaugural season. The Lady Eagles will be a member of the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
