Ripley and Lady Trojans go extra

District 15-2A has a front runner in the Covington Lady Chargers.
The two teams emerging closer and closer in their rear view mirror are the Ripley Lady Tigers and Millington Lady Trojans. Thursday night those two squads met in Flag City on the Lady Trojan Softball Field.
And it was Ripley surviving a slugfest 10-8 in eighth innings over the host Lady Trojans. After the Lady Tigers grabbed an 1-0 lead in the first inning, Millington finally answered with a rally in the third inning.
The Lady Trojans got rolling with a TZ House single to drive in Millington’s first run of Hannah Clifton. The next batter for the Lady Trojans was Ally Mareno driving in House and Paige Hall.
The Lady Trojans were ahead 3-1 until the Lady Tigers tied the game in the fifth inning. Then Ripley ripped off a five-run sixth frame highlighted by an Emma Simpson double that made the tally 8-3.
The Lady Trojans stayed claim and answered back with a five-run inning of their own starting with a Keyanna Jones bases loaded walk to bring home a runner.
Then Hall delivered a double to right-center clearing the bases of Lady Trojans and making the score 8-7. House came up clutch again with another base hit to drive in the tying run.
The contest remained deadlock until the top of the eighth when Emma Simpson came up big with a hit to the outfield scoring a pair of Lady Tigers. That provided the different with Ripley winning 10-8.
