Lady Trojans give and take in districts

Millington’s Miles Park was the home of the 2018 District 15-2A Softball Tournament. The host Millington Lady Trojans welcomed their district foes Bolivar Central, Haywood, Ripley and the No. 1 seeded Covington Lady Chargers to town to see who would earn the top two spots in order to reach Regionals.
Millington opened up the tournament Thursday night as the No. 4 seed taking on No. 5 Haywood. The Lady Tomcats jumped out 5-1 in the first two innings. Then Millington exploded for 14 unanswered runs to prevail 15-5.
The Lady Trojans mercy-rule victory set up a date with the top seeded Lady Chargers. Millington jumped out 1-0 early. Covington was able to grab the advantage 2-1 in the second inning.
Then the Lady Chargers seized control of the game with 11 runs in the third inning. Covington received big blast off the bat of Brooke Johnson. Johnson’s two-run homer made it 5-1.
The Lady Chargers advanced in the winner’s bracket with the 13-1 victory.
The Lady Trojan’s 2018 season came to an early end Tuesday night against Bolivar 3-1.
