2017-18 Fall/Winter Stars of the Season

Football Offensive Star of the Season
Lance West
The Brighton Cardinals’ offense ran primarily through West in 2017. He rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and led the team in touchdowns. West was a key part of Brighton reaching the State Semifinals for the first time in school history. West was offered multiple scholarships but accepted a walk-on offer to Murray State. He was named to the Tennessee All-State team at running back.
Football Defensive Star of the Season
Aaron Alston
Known for his efforts on offense, Alston shined on the defensive side of the ball. Especially as Brighton made its historic run to the Class 5A Semifinals, Alston made multiple interceptions and tackles from is position. He became just as recognized for his hard hits. Alston was named to the All-State team for defense and is heading off to Southeast Missouri State.
Volleyball Star of the Season
Addison Coulter
Millington’s go-to player led the team in kills in 2017. Coulter was a versatile part of the Lady Trojans’ historic run to hosting Sub-State. She improved her passing and defense at the net in guiding Millington to District 15-2A regular-season and tournament titles. Coulter would deliver the timely score during Regionals helping the Lady Trojans capture the school’s first Region championship. Coulter will be a Bethel Wildcat starting next season.
Wrestling Star of the Season
Paul Stafford
Stafford was one of four Millington Trojans to reach the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament in 2018. Stafford competed in the 170-pound weight division earning a victory over Alcoa’s Colton Wade.
Girls Soccer Star of the Season
Destiny Jones
The freshman forward made a huge impact on the 2017 Millington Lady Trojans. She led the team in scoring while flashing great dribbling skills. As Jones physically matures, her body will catch up with her improving skill level. She was one of Millington’s leaders in assists as well.
Girls Basketball Star of the Season
Gabby Crawford
The Munford Lady Cougar senior is heading off to Alabama as the most decorated player in school history. Crawford led the 2017-18 Lady Cougars to Sub-State after capturing the District 13-3A Tournament crown. Crawford had multiple double-doubles throughout the season while leading Munford in points. She won the William Osteen Christmas Tournament MVP and was named All-State.
Basketball Star of the Season
Zach Lewis
The Brighton Cardinal senior guard joined teammate Tae’lyr Gatlin as a career 1,000-point scorer in 2018. Lewis used his lethal shooting touch to average more than 17 points a game and lead the Cardinals in scoring this past season. He earned a scholarship to Jackson State and helped Brighton capture the District 13-3A regular-season and tournament titles in 2018.
Golf Star of the Season
Kenny Harris
The senior leader for the Millington Trojans had the best average on the squad and was able to reach Regionals in Class 2A. Harris was a regular in Regionals for Head Coach Bruce Marshall. And he provided guidance for younger teammates in his final two campaigns for the Trojans.
