2018 Spring Stars of the Season

Boys’ Soccer Star of the Season
Colby Goode
The Millington Trojan ninth-grader made headlines this season setting a school freshman record for goals. Goode scored 18 times this past season. And he was one of the leaders in assists and led the Trojans in points in 2018.

Baseball Star of the Season
Eli Davis
The 2018 Tennessee Mr. Baseball Finalist was dual-threat player for the Brighton Cardinals. He led the Cardinals in win percentage going 7-0 with 69 strikeouts. In more than 50 innings pitched, Davis had an ERA of 0.97. The Cardinal senior batted .391 with 45 hits. Of those 45 hits, Davis stroked 13 doubles and 5 home runs to drive in 30 runners. He also stole 45 bases, reaching the 100 mark earlier this season.

Softball Star of the Season
Rachel Whitley
Whitley was lethal as a pitcher for the Tipton-Rosemark Academy Lady Rebels in 2018 adding to her various records. But the senior was a feared batter as well as one of the leaders for Johnie Sanfratello’s State Runner-Ups. Whitley was a leader in home runs, RBI’s and hits this past season. She is heading to Christian Brothers University.

Softball Pitching Star of the Season
Charli Rice
The freshman hurler got her feet wet last season as an eighth grader for the Tipton-Rosemark Academy Lady Rebels. Her maturity was on display throughout 2018 pitching in big games including the Sub-State clincher against King’s Academy. Rice won games at the State Tournament and will inherit the ace role from graduated senior Rachel Whitley.

Baseball Pitching Star of the Season
Corey Mitson
The senior ace who is heading to Southern Illinois University went out in grand style with the Tipton-Rosemark Academy Rebels. He posted solid numbers at the plate but made his biggest impact from the mound. Mitson had a 1.61 ERA in 72.1 innings pitched. He struck out 112 batters going 9-1 on the season. TRA was able to ride Mitson’s clutch arm to a 31-17 record and State Runner-Up finish.

Boys’ Track Star of the Season
Blake Johnson
One of the most decorated Cougar Track athletes of all-time, Johnson became the first Munford athlete to participate in the Tennessee Decathlon. He earned ninth place in the event just missing out on a medal. Johnson was able to close out his standout Munford career with a medal taking eighth in the Triple Jump with a leap of 43-05 at the State Track Meet.

Girls’ Track Star of the Season
Ciara Potter
The sophomore Lady Cougar standout reached Sectionals in 2018 in multiple events. It was the Long Jump Potter made her Tennessee State Meet debut in May. Potter finished 13th in the Long Jump with a leap of 16-07.25. She was able to set a school record in the event jumping more than 18 feet during the season.

Girls’ Newcomer of the Year
Ally Marona
This freshman Lady Trojan made her mark in two sports in 2017-18. She was a key contributor to Millington making school history in volleyball hosting Sub-State. She joined Paige Hall and Addison Coulter on the front line scoring points on kills and blocks. In the spring Ally is busy with softball earning a spot in the lineup and moving up the  batting order. Her physical gifts and maturity spell horror for the opposition in District 15-2A for the next three years.

Boys’ Newcomer of the Year
Alex Anderson
The Tipton-Rosemark Academy freshman forward lived up to the expectations as a Middle Tennessee State University recruit helping the Rebels reach Sub-State. Anderson joined forces with his older brother Andrew to provide an additional spark to a TRA lineup featuring Howard Grey, Tysen Banks, Carter Weakley and fellow talented freshman Patrick Green. Anderson is a 6’6 versatile talent who is just tapping into his potential as a post and perimeter player.
