It’s hard to miss display of patriotism on Highway 51 North in Millington to stand in honor and tribute. On Saturday, Sept. 3 at 8 a.m., sharp, Girl Scouts from across Shelby and Tipton County along with the staff of Northridge Woodhaven Community Outreach will begin setting in place nearly 3,000 American flags at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington. The 3,000 American flags represent every victim, emergency responder and military member who lost their life on September 11, 2001. The hard-to-miss display of patriotism is being set in place for the upcoming Never Forget Tribute taking place on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 4 p.m. at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery located at 6755 Highway 51 North in Millington, TN. The Never Forget Tribute is a special commemoration to honor the memory of the thousands lost on September 11, 2001. Never Forget is a free and family-friendly community event open to the entire public. Opening ceremonies include presentation of colors by the Millington Composite Civil Air Patrol Color Guard, Auxiliary of the United States Air Force; performance of the national anthem; opening address by Chaplin Don Vonbuskirk and words of inspiration from pillars in our community. Following the opening ceremony of Never Forget, the Tribute provides an opportunity to participate in a half-mile Remembrance Walk and Ribbon Pinning Ceremony to honor the memory of the victims and heroes of September 11. Each finisher, whether they walk, run, jog will receive a certificate of completion to mark their participation. Additionally, the Never Forget Tribute will include an Art Exhibit by local youth. Approximately 50 pieces of art will be on display. Those amazing artworks are being created by students from Millington Middle School and (name of school). As a gesture to show support and respect and to thank our First Responders for all they do for us every day, a banner will be available for community to write notes of thanks and appreciation to local first responders. The banner will be shared throughout the community in the weeks following the Tribute. In appreciation for attending the event, each guest will receive a special 9-11 memorial lapel pin.
