Munford Cougar Garrett Baugh is a man of few words. He prefers his play to do his speaking. Throughout the 2015, Baugh was one of the loudest Cougars making big play after big play. Whether it was running fake punts, picking up first downs with timely catches or leaping out of the sky to intercept a pass, Baugh was vital in the 8-0 start last season. In the past two seasons under JR Kirby, Munford became a winning program, sent several players to college and a participant in the TSSAA Class 5A playoffs. But earlier this year, Kirby stepped down to take a job at Crockett County. Munford defensive coordinator Nick Markle stepped up to take over the head coaching position. Baugh and Markle have gotten to know each other well over the past couple of years. “Coach Markle has been around,” Baugh noted. “He knows what it is about. He’s a good coach. He’s going to do well for us.” Baugh said there was some transition from Kirby to Markle, but the returning Cougars know the mindset has to be the same. “We’ve just got to keep putting in work every day,” he said. “And put Munford first. That means come together as a team and put away the bickering. We’ve also have to put Munford first as a school. We have to turn-up for the school.” The Turn-Up Style of play of Baugh made him a key contributor in 2015. He plans to use his athleticism to continue making timely plays. “Lead by example and we’ll bring us together as a team,” he said. “We’ll bring that ‘Juice.’” Baugh will be bringing the juice from his free safety spot and on offense seeing some time at quarterback.
“It’s senior year,” he said. “I’m ready to do whatever I have to do. I’m willing to sacrifice myself to help the team win. It’s going to be a good year – it’s senior year. I have to do it big.”
