Boys’ Soccer Star of the Season

Colby Goode

The Millington Trojan senior was a leader on and off the field. Goode was a part of a group of 10 seniors sparking the Trojans to a historic season. Millington won the district and Regional titles to earn the school’s first ever home Sectional game. Goode was vital on offense leading the team in goals and adding to his top 5 all-time stats in the program. 

Baseball Star of the Season

Logan Rushing

The District 13-3A and All-State player was the heartbeat of the 2021 Brighton Cardinals. Rushing’s pitching, hitting and defense was crucial to Brighton reaching the State Baseball Tournament for the first time. Rushing was among the leaders in all major categories for Brighton from the mound and plate. He will be heading to the University of Memphis to continue his baseball career. 

Softball Star of the Season

Brie Howard

The Brighton Lady Cardinal sophomore was fierce from the plate. The catcher called the game for 20 wins and helped offensively by leading the team in home runs. She was also a leader in RBIs and overall hits. 

Softball Pitching Star of the Season

Charli Rice

The Tipton-Rosemark Academy senior hurler is heading to Union University with her talent of singing and pitching. She led her Lady Rebels back to state and to a runner-up finish. Rice was the leader in wins and strikeouts. Her pitching was crucial to TRA running through the West Region and sweeping the Sectional round. 

Baseball Pitching Star of the Season

Zach Seward

Joining forces with fellow classmate Patrick Green, Seward did his thing from the mound for the TRA Rebels throughout 2021. He authored a no-hitter to avoid elimination during the post season. The Rebels did reach the State Tournament. Seward was among the leaders on his team in strikeouts and scoreless innings. He even added in a walk-off home run in one of his pitching victories. 

Boys’ Track Star of the Season

DeMaryo Gatlin

The Brighton Cardinal senior reached the State High Jump meet in Murfreesboro. Gatlin just finished outside the medal stand jumping nearly 6 feet. His first love is basketball and he will be playing on the college level this fall. 

Girls’ Track Star of the Season

Morgan Mitchell

The Munford Cougar athlete held a successful track season and ended up at State. Morgan Mitchell was a standout for the Lady Cougars in the 200m and 400m. Mitchell was a crucial part of the Munford relay teams throughout the season as well. She raced at State in the 400m. 

Tennis Stars of the Season

Maddie Peters

The District 13-3A and Region 7-3A champion reached the Adams Tennis Complex at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro to take on Lucy Higgins of Lincoln County. The senior jumped out early against Maddie Peters winning the first set 6-0. Peters’ play improved in the season set. Peters was a junior this past season and played as the No. 2 for the Brighton Lady Cardinals. She is looking to return to State in 2022. 

Girls’ Newcomer of the Year

Katelyn Jones 

Missing out on her freshman campaign, Jones used her debut season in the circle to help the Brighton Lady Cardinals win 20 games. Coach Robin Jacobs put the ball in Jones’ glove each game including the District 13-3A game. Brighton was the regular season champs behind the pitching of Jones. 

Boys’ Newcomer of the Year

McCoy Pugh

A future Athlete of the Year candidate, Pugh was a member of the Millington Trojan Soccer and Football teams. Pugh made a splash in football as the quarterback for the Trojans. He guided the Trojans to the playoffs and his completion percentage improved as the season progressed. He also improved his touchdowns and displayed more poise behind his offensive line.
