The friends and family of Ammon Edgar Haley gathered Saturday afternoon at the Baker Community in Millington for what was supposed to be a celebration of his upcoming 100th birthday on Oct. 31. The event transformed into a memorial and celebration of 99 years when Haley passed away about an hour before the party started. His younger brother Ed Haley read two proclamations dedicated to Edgar and other family members spoke about his legacy as a son, brother, World War II soldier, husband, father, educator, community leader and much more. The life of Haley will be featured in next week’s Hometown Heroes, a special section of West 10 Media.
