Chamber Business Expo set for June

Millington Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Mega Workforce Expo and Health Fair on June 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crosspointe Baptist Church located at 8550 Highway 51 North in Millington. Redemption Fest 2022 set for May 14

The Second Annual Redemption Fest (scheduled act in photo) is set for May 14 at the Millington-Memphis Airport located at 8182 Hornet Avenue. For more information and to find out the acts at this year’s event visit the Redemption Fest Facebook page or website at: www.redemptionfest.com 

A portion of the proceeds will go to Camp Conquest located in Millington at 3934 W Union Road. 

National Day of Prayer in Millington

The City of Millington will host its annual National Day of Prayer ceremony May 5 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the 901 Church located at 8077 Wilkinsville Road in Millington. For more information, call 873-5770. 

MPL to hold Kids’ Coding Class 

The Millington Public Library located at 4858 Navy Road in Millington will be hosting a children’s coding class this week. It started April 11 and will continue through May 16. It’s every Monday from 4-5 p.m. It’s a free six-week introduction to coding class for second to fourth graders. Students will use robots to learn the basics of coding. Turtle Island Native American Pow Wow Coming

The 2022 Turtle Island Native American Association Pow Wow is set for May 21-22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the VFW Post 7175 located at 4681 Cuba-Millington Road. There will be Aztec dancers with regalia and traditional entertainment and performances. Also scheduled to appear are John T. Wayne (grandson of the Duke). John Lone Eagle and Band will play Native American music and there will be other culture events. Also the Pow Wow will have vendors, food, and crafts. Bring your own chairs or blankets to enjoy songs from the ancestors. For more information and prices, call 876-4015. 

Millington Senior Club

The Millington Senior Citizen’s Club is meeting again Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with entertainment weekly. The club meets at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street. For more information, call 873-5770. 

Senior Exercise

The senior exercise club meets Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street in Millington. For more information, call 873-5770. 

Senior Dance Night

The Senior Dance Night will be held April 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street in Millington. It will be live music by Fernando and couples/singles welcomed. There is a fee per person. For more information, call 873-5770. 

Young Life Golf Tournament set for May 

Mark your calendars for May 13 for the annual Young Life Golf Tournament. The annual golf tournament helps raise funds to take kids to summer camp. This is also an opportunity to bring friends and family to see what God is up to in their communities through Young Life leaders. “We would love for you to come out and spend the day at Glen Eagle Golf Course in Millington with us. Road Construction in Memphis

Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews began installing signs for the paving project last week. Standard Construction is the prime contractor for this $4.2 million paving project. The 2.3 miles between Perkins Extended and I-240 has an estimated completion date of September 30. Motorists will see work during the day, as crews will be working seven days a week. The lane closures will take place at night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will be working on the handicap ramps during the day between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day. Single lane closures began this weekend and will continue each night. Weather permitting, daytime single lane closures will take place from 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on specific days following the nighttime work. Poplar Avenue sees approximately 47,000 vehicles a day, and you are asked to plan ahead and look for alternate routes.

Hernando Desoto Bridge work coming to conclusion

Sunday, April 24 through Thursday, April 28, from 8 p.m.-6 a.m.: Intermittent lane closures on I-40 east and westbound at MM 0.00 on the Hernando Desoto Bridge to allow for bridge lighting repairs.
