Chamber Business Expo set for June
Millington Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Mega Workforce Expo and Health Fair on June 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crosspointe Baptist Church located at 8550 Highway 51 North in Millington. Senior Exercise

Turtle Island Native American Pow Wow Coming
The 2022 Turtle Island Native American Association Pow Wow is set for May 21-22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the VFW Post 7175 located at 4681 Cuba-Millington Road. There will be Aztec dancers with regalia and traditional entertainment and performances. Also scheduled to appear are John T. Wayne (grandson of the Duke). John Lone Eagle and Band will play Native American music and there will be other culture events. Also the Pow Wow will have vendors, food, and crafts. Flag City Freedom Celebration set for June 30
The 2022 Flag City Freedom Celebration will be held on June 30 this year. The event will be held at the Millington Sports Complex, located at 4885 Bill Knight Road. Harris COGIC hosting Love Retreat
Harris Chapel Church of God in Christ will be hosting the Created with Love Retreat I 2022 Saturday June 18 from noon to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Missionary Department. Come and see how to improve your mental health in engaging dialog and in a non-judgmental environment. Also, help with building your money while working and getting your affairs in order. Millington Senior Club
The Millington Senior Citizen’s Club is meeting again Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with entertainment weekly. The club meets at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street. For more information, call 873-5770.
Road Construction in Memphis
Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews began installing signs for the paving project last week. Standard Construction is the prime contractor for this $4.2 million paving project. The 2.3 miles between Perkins Extended and I-240 has an estimated completion date of September 30. Motorists will see work during the day, as crews will be working seven days a week. The lane closures will take place at night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will be working on the handicap ramps during the day between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day. Single lane closures began this weekend and will continue each night. Weather permitting, daytime single lane closures will take place from 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on specific days following the nighttime work. Poplar Avenue sees approximately 47,000 vehicles a day, and you are asked to plan ahead and look for alternate routes.
Register for DSCC’s College for Kids Summer Program
The Dyersburg State Community College Division of Workforce Development will offer its annual College for Kids summer program at the Dyersburg campus June 14-16 from 8 a.m. to noon each day. The program is available for children in Kindergarten through eighth grades during the upcoming 2022-2023 academic year.
This year’s program features the theme entitled, “Our Future Leaders,” and will provide stimulating educational classes such as Minecraft, STEM, Acting and Improv, Cake Decorating, Dance and Cheer, Spanish, Sports Training, and Science Adventure.

Charles-Bartlett to Quito roads closed until 2023
Shelby County officials announced in April an extensive road closure through next year for a drainage improvement project.
Charles Bartlett Road between Quito Road and Oglesby Road will be closed starting May 2 through January 22, 2023. The county says the project requires installing a new concrete box culvert across Charles Bartlett Road. Charles Bartlett Road will be open to local traffic only from Quito Road and Oglesby Road.
