National Day of Prayer

Millington’s National Day of Prayer will be held May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the River of Life Church located at 8850 Highway 51 North in Millington. The theme is Lift Up the Word, Light Up the World from 2 Samuel 22:29-31. For more information, contact CK Reece at [email protected]

Reed Family Open House

Local business, Reed Family Dentistry is hosting an Open House to celebrate 75 years in operation. The 75th celebration will take place at 8020 Highway 51 North from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be food, drinks, music and giveaways. 

Legion Golf Tourney

A local veterans group announces plans for a golf tournament to help raise money for various local projects. 

The Harry M. Crawford American Legion Post 252 of Millington announced plans for a golf tournament on Saturday, May 18 at the Edmund Orgill golf course in Millington.

Casting for Cops

Casting for Cops, a free event, will take place June 1 at Edmund Orgill Pond located at 9000 Center College Road from 7 to 10 a.m. Bring your own fishing pole and bait because  the pond will be stocked. It’s open for ages 15 and under. Come cast a line with local law enforcement, prizes will be awarded in three age categories; 5 and under, 6-9, 10-15 years old ~ First Fish ~ Smallest Fish ~ Most Fish ~ Largest Fish Fishing equipment will be provided if needed (limited) For more information email Lt. Senior Club

The Millington Senior Citizen’s Club is meeting again Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with entertainment weekly. The club meets at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street. For more information, call 873-5770. 

TOPS Weekly Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets weekly at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street on Fridays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. TOPS is a non-profit weight-loss support group and is very affordable. Your first meeting is free. Everyone is welcome who wished to lose weight. TOPS is available to men, women and children from age 7 to 100-plus. Go to TOPS.ORG for more information. 

Senior Exercise

The senior exercise club meets Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street in Millington. For more information, call 873-5770.

18th Annual Turtle Pow Wow set for May 18-19

The Turtle Island Native American Association, a 501(c) non-profit organization, is hosting its 18th Annual Millington Pow Wow at the VFW Post 7175 located 4681 Cuba-MIllington Road in Millington on May 18-19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Involving the Tennessee Arts Commission, the event will feature John T. Wayne, grandson of the ‘Duke.’ Also scheduled to appear are John LoneEagle and Band, dancers Take Notice and the Aztec Dancers. The master of  ceremony will be Ken Dixon. The Pow Wow will have the drums of Southern Pine Singers and there will be Native American craft vendors with handmade items. Millington Food Pantry

The Millington Food Pantry is located on the grounds of Millington First United Methodist Church at 8029 Wilkinsville Road, is available to qualified residents of 38053 living in Shelby County.  Hours of operation are each Tuesday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the third Saturday of each month 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Call 901-872-2771 to make an appointment.  Appointments are not made  in advance of the day the pantry is open.

CBC Monthly Meeting

The Millington City Beautiful Commission meets monthly on the first Thursday of each month at the Millington IDB Building located at 7965 Veterans Parkway. The public is welcomed to attend.

Millington Library

The Library hosts free Adult Ukulele Lessons every Monday at 5 p.m., and there are other events like Afternoon Storytime at the Millington Public Library. For more information, call 872-1585 or visit 4858 Navy Road in Millington.

MPD Rule the Road Coming

The Millington Police Department will host “Rule the Road” Event on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Roadmaster Driving School located at 8050 Singleton Avenue for all teen drivers (ages 15-18). The Millington Police Department, in partnership with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office and Alliance Highway Safety, is excited to host the “Rule the Road” event. This free program provides teen drivers with the opportunity to: gain valuable knowledge and skills beyond standard driver’s education, receive hands-on instruction from certified emergency vehicle operators, practice essential driving maneuvers in a safe and controlled environment, and learn about the dangers of distracted and impaired driving.

Activities include controlled braking course, offset lane station, evasive maneuvering course, distracted/impaired driving simulator, impaired driving course with a field sobriety test, seat belt convincer and blind spot recognition station. Don’t miss this chance to improve your driving skills and knowledge. Requirements are valid driver’s license or permit, personal vehicle and space is limited.
