Millington Fall Festival set for Oct. 29

The City of Millington Fall Festival will be held Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Millington Farmers Market located at 5152 Easley Street. There will be booths with treats, craft vendors, food truck, hayrides and much more. Bring your carved pumpkins to be entered into the pumpkin contest. For more information, call 873-5770. 

Millington Senior Club

The Millington Senior Citizen’s Club is meeting again Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with entertainment weekly. The club meets at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street. For more information, call 873-5770. 

Construction in Memphis Area

SHELBY COUNTY, I-55/Crump:

This project began on June 13.  The ramp to continue onto southbound I-55 from the “Old Bridge” is reduced to one lane and southbound I-55 from the Crump Interchange to McLemore Ave. will be reduced to two lanes with the outside shoulder closed for about 8 months.

LOOK AHEAD: Monday, October 17 through Tuesday, October 18, 8 p.m.– 6 a.m.: In preparation to begin Phase 2 construction, all northbound and southbound I-55 traffic will shift into the southbound I-55 lanes resulting in one lane in each direction. Demolition of the east half of both the Wisconsin Street bridge and the pedestrian bridge will occur.  The northbound I-55 exit ramp to eastbound Crump Boulevard and the McLemore entrance ramp to northbound I-55 will be closed in addition to the aforementioned closures. Other construction activities will continue.  These closures will remain in place until Fall of 2023.

SHELBY COUNTY — Monday, October 10 through Friday, October 15, 9 a.m. 3 p.m.: I-240 Westbound ramp to Lamar Ave (SR.4) southbound will be closed to perform bridge deck and expansion joint repairs. Detours will be provided. Weather Permitting.

Senior Exercise

The senior exercise club meets Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street in Millington. For more information, call 873-5770. 

Charles-Bartlett to Quito roads closed until 2023

Shelby County officials announced in April an extensive road closure through next year for a drainage improvement project. Charles Bartlett Road between Quito Road and Oglesby Road will be closed starting May 2 through January 22, 2023. The county says the project requires installing a new concrete box culvert across Charles Bartlett Road. Charles Bartlett Road will be open to local traffic only from Quito Road and Oglesby Road.

Millington Rec offering sports camps soon

The Millington Park and Recreation’s next two sports clinics have been set. Thanks to our collaboration with the MCHS coaches and teams, we will be doing a baseball pitching clinic and a girls soccer clinic.

The girls’ soccer clinic will be on Saturday, Nov.  5 at the MCHS football stadium at 8050 West Street. Cost is $25 per person. Ages 7-10 will be from 12:30-2 p.m. and 11-14 will be from 3-5. 

There is a limit of 20 participants per session. You will have to pay your fees by going to Baker Community Center at 7942 during normal business hours (Mon-Thurs 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.) or by calling the office at 901-873-5770 during those hours as well.

Soul Out Thanksgiving set for Nov. 17

Soul Out Ministries will host the 10th Anniversary Community Thanksgiving Dinner Nov. 17 at the Baker Community Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7942 Church Street in Millington.

The meal is open to all who are in need. Dine in and fellowship or do take out. There will also be new shoes and clothing available.  For more information, contact Soul Out Ministries Founder Carol Jenkins at 949-1675 (donations welcomed and volunteers needed). 

Fall Festival in Rosemark Oct. 29

The Rosemark Full Gospel Church invites the public to its Fall Festival Oct. 29 starting at 5 p.m. with games, treats for kids, hot dogs, smores and much more. Come out and enjoy the festivities at 7280 Kerr-Rosemark Road in Millington.

Lions Club at Fall Festival

For the first time, the Millington Lions Club Foundation is going to do a fundraising luncheon. It will be on Saturday, during the Millington Fall Festival at the Farmers Market located at 5152 Easley Street. The Lions Club will offer hamburgers and hot dogs with chips and a drink. Come out and enjoy the festivities available for adults and children. Donations are accepted and the Club is working on raising money to install an All-Inclusive Playground in Lions Park to replace the outdated equipment that is there currently.  

The local Millington Lions Club Foundation members raise money to aid those in need in Millington, Munford, Atoka, Brighton, Burlison, Drummonds, and Rosemark as well as Frayser in Memphis. 

Your contributions allow us to provide the gift of sight and hearing through eye exams and eyeglasses, auditory exams, and hearing aids, and for all eye care, including cataract and prosthetic surgeries. impaired. We are also involved in community projects such as the Laundry Love program and local food banks, amongst others, and recently had a fence installed around Lions Park in Millington.

November Construction for Memphis Roads

LOOK AHEAD: Thursday, Nov. 3 and Friday, Nov. 4, 8 p.m.–6 a.m. Noise wall panel installation on Noise Wall No. 1 south of Wisconsin Avenue will cause the following nightly closures:  the southbound I-55 exit ramp to McLemore Avenue. Necessary detours will be posted.
