County Fair in Rosemark

Historic District Country Fair at Rosemark is set for this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with free admission. The event is located at the intersection of Rosemark Road and Kerrville-Rosemark Road near the campus at Tipton-Rosemark Academy. Scheduled are a car show, agricultural equipment and livestock, food vendors, garden expo, music tent, military equipment, tours of a new museum & community center, and more. Kiwanis Club Golf Tourney

Volleyball Camp

It’s time to register for our upcoming Millington Parks and Recreation youth volleyball league. You can sign your child up at  www.millingtontn.gov Last day to register and pay your fees is Friday, September 30 at 230 pm. This league is for ages 10-17 Cost is $50 per player. 

Practices will be during the week and on Saturdays. First practice will be on Oct. 3. Games will be played on Saturdays starting Oct. 29. You will register online but you will have to pay your fees in one of two ways. Go to Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street between 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday to pay with cash, check or card. Bluegrass Festival set for Sept. 24

The Aquatseli Bluegrass Festival is set for September 24 inside the Meeman Shelby Forest State Park. Portions of the proceeds go back into Shelby Forest State Park and also local non-profit Camp Conquest.

Millington Senior Club

The Millington Senior Citizen’s Club is meeting again Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with entertainment weekly. The club meets at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street. For more information, call 873-5770.

Charles-Bartlett to Quito roads closed until 2023

Shelby County officials announced in April an extensive road closure through next year for a drainage improvement project. Charles Bartlett Road between Quito Road and Oglesby Road will be closed starting May 2 through January 22, 2023. The county says the project requires installing a new concrete box culvert across Charles Bartlett Road. Charles Bartlett Road will be open to local traffic only from Quito Road and Oglesby Road.

Construction in Memphis Area

Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews began installing signs for the paving project last week. Standard Construction is the prime contractor for this $4.2 million paving project. The 2.3 miles between Perkins Extended and I-240 has an estimated completion date of September 30. Motorists will see work during the day, as crews will be working seven days a week. The lane closures will take place at night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will be working on the handicap ramps during the day between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day. Single lane closures began this weekend and will continue each night. Weather permitting, daytime single lane closures will take place from 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on specific days following the nighttime work. Poplar Avenue sees approximately 47,000 vehicles a day, and you are asked to plan ahead and look for alternate routes.

SHELBY COUNTY, I-55/Crump:

This project began on June 13.  The ramp to continue onto southbound I-55 from the “Old Bridge” is reduced to one lane and southbound I-55 from the Crump Interchange to McLemore Ave. will be reduced to two lanes with the outside shoulder closed for about 8 months.

Youth Sports Clinics @ MPR

Millington Parks and Recreation is announcing a collaboration with Millington Central High School on some youth sports clinics for a number of different sports. 

“We will be offering clinics for volleyball, girls’ basketball and softball,” said Mark Healy of Millington Parks and Rec. “These clinics will be instructed by the coaches and players of Trojans sports teams both present and past. Each of these clinics are limited to 20 participants per session and they are broken down by ages as well.”

There will be a session for 7-10 years olds and another for 11-14 yr olds. Cost will be $25 per player. You will have to fill out the registration form online and www.millingtontn.gov and pay your fees by the deadline to be able to participate. You can pay your fees at Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street  from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. You can also call the office and pay over the phone at 873-5770. 

Here is a list of the various clinics: Girls Basketball on September 24 at the MCHS gym at 8050 West St. ages 7-10 will be from 10 a.m.-noon. 11-14 will be from 1-3 p.m.
