Young and old alike remember, on this the 15th anniversary of the tragedy This week, students from Millington Central High School created works of art to honor the thousands lost on September 11, 2001 (examples are attached from Teacher, Joanne Zachary art students at Millington Central High School). Also this week, Scouts from across Shelby & Tipton County and Veterans from the Harry M. Crawford American Legion Post 252 along with the staff of Northridge Woodhaven Community Outreach set in place 3,000 American flags at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery on Hwy 51 North in Millington. The 3,000 American flags represent every victim, emergency responder and military member who lost their life on September 11, 2001. The works of art and 3,000 piece American flag display is for the upcoming Never Forget Tribute taking place on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery located at 6755 Highway 51 North, Millington 38053 Never Forget Tribute is a special commemoration to honor the memory of the thousands lost on September 11, 2001. Never Forget is a free and family-friendly community event open to the entire public. Opening ceremonies include presentation of colors by Millington Composite Civil Air Patrol Color Guard, Auxiliary of the US Air Force; performance of the National Anthem and God Bless America by duet Diana Frans and Jamie VonBuskirk; words of inspiration by Captain Ruben Barrett, Squadron Commander Millington Composite Civil Air Patrol, Auxiliary of the US Air Force and Gary Graves, Millington Public Safety Director. Following the opening ceremony of Never Forget, the Tribute provides an opportunity to participate in a half-mile Remembrance Walk and Ribbon Pinning Ceremony to honor the memory of the victims and heroes of September 11. Each finisher, whether they walk, run, jog will receive a certificate of completion to mark their participation. Additionally, the Never Forget Tribute will include an Art Exhibit by local youth. Those amazing artworks were created by students from Millington Central High School. As a gesture to show support and respect and to thank our First Responders for all they do for us every day, a banner will be available for community to write notes of thanks and appreciation to local first responders. The banner will be shared throughout the community in the weeks following the Tribute. In appreciation for attending the event, each guest will receive a special 9-11 memorial lapel pin. Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home Manager, Will Terry said this, “A field of 3,000 American flags standing in solemn formation is an awe-inspiring site. Our desire is to provide the community a venue to remember and honor the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001.
